Uni update - Year I, part I

I've wanted to include something a little more personal on my blog, although maybe a little short. I thought that starting off with a Uni update would be good, since the first semester has finished and I'm currently on Christmas break.

So, first semester...how can I describe it? Crazy is definitely a word that jumps out at me more than anything else. I feel like so much has happened and changed since September when I first moved into Oxford. Definitely started off with being super homesick (freshers week was the worst), and having a rough patch relationship wise. But I am glad to say that everything turned out to be okay -- relationship problems disappeared faster than Freshers week was over, and everything kind of fell into place.

Academically wise, semester 1 was definitely interesting. I mean first week I didn't miss one lecture, and then it kind of went down hill from there. I must admit I have not been using my time as productively and actively as I should have been -- ditched so many lectures, the whole semester kind of felt like one massive, 11 week half term. But I came to regret this when assignment deadlines and exams came up. And so I have made a resolution on New Year's eve:

1. I will attend every single lecture
2. I will do every single assignment at least 3 days before it's due
3. Revise for exams throughout the semester (rather than just the day / night before)

Although I hadn't made as much effort as I should have done, I was pleased to find out that my exam results were more than acceptable. And so, although I definitely did not start off by using the £9,000 to my utmost benefit, I fully intend to do so from here on forward.

Personally wise, I think the first semester of Uni was very special. I enjoyed freshers week and the partying that came after. I love every single moment I spent meeting new people and new friends -- whether in night clubs, lecture theatres or my accommodation. I managed to get what I thought was going to be my dream job, but the dream soon crumbled. But that's okay, sometimes that happens and you move on with a new dream. And so I would say it was definitely more of a success than a failure.

As I prepare to move back to Oxford for Semester 2, I feel prepared for what's about to come. I definitely will try to put in more effort, definitely will try to try harder and more to make sure that Uni is actually worth it for me. But I think the most popular phrase will remain true:

''First Year doesn't count!''
